The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.” – Carl Rogers

About Dr. Tara Milton

The quote above describes the way I view life and the importance I place upon continuously striving to grow and learn.  It is a philosophy which I live by, both personally and in my work as a psychologist.  When meeting my clients, I strive to see the whole person, including all the potential and positive aspects that they carry within them.  Through this perspective, my role becomes one of joining clients on their journeys and helping them to find the most fulfilling and healthy directions to pursue.  Through this process, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to help others, while also learning from them.

My name is Dr. Tara Milton and I have been working in the field of psychology for the past 15 years.  I earned my Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology/Argosy University, and my Master of Science degree as well as my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Georgia Southern University. My experience has included work in a broad range of settings with individuals between the ages of 2 and 75.  Throughout my years of training and work experience, I have conducted hundreds of psychological evaluations as well as provided individual, group, couples, and family therapy.  My areas of specialty include psychological evaluations for purposes of diagnosis and treatment planning, neuropsychology, custody recommendations, educational determinations/placement, parental fitness, forensics, pre-employment, disability and comptenency determination, trauma issues, and bariatric surgery candidacy.  Additionally, my primary areas of specialty in providing psychotherapy include work with children, adolescents, and young adults struggling with eating disorders, self-injurious behaviors, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, chronic health concerns, and relationship difficulties.

When working with clients, it is important to me that they feel comfortable so that we may begin developing a trusting relationship from the very beginning.  I view the therapeutic relationship as integral to treatment, and I believe nurturing this relationship is the foundation for positive growth and change.  Additionally, I feel each client is an individual with his/her own unique needs, desires, and abilities.  As such, my approach to treatment is tailored to the individual and may incorporate practices and techniques from various theoretical orientations including cognitive-behavioral, client-centered, interpersonal, and existential.

It is my genuine desire for you to undertake this new direction of your journey in the most comfortable manner. I would be honored to join you in this process!
